Eskom says it is optimistic that there will be no need for load shedding in the near future.

In a statement, the power utility says it will continue with a rigorous programme of planned maintenance without implementing load shedding while also minimising the usage of open cycle gas turbines.

Renewable energy would continue to contribute up to 1 600MW of electricity generated during the day from solar and wind, including Eskom's 100MW Sere wind farm.
