A group of NGOs have allegedly urged government and authorities to treat the raid on the Helen Suzman Foundation’s offices as a major attack on the freedom and integrity of civil society.

Several armed robbers overpowered a security guard on Sunday at the foundation’s Johannesburg offices before stealing computers and documents.

The raid came just days after the foundation, together with Freedom Under Law, applied at the High Court in Pretoria to have the decision to appoint Berning Ntlemeza as head of the Hawks set aside.
