The SACP says plans to appeal a decision to release its late general secretary Chris Hani's killer Janusz Walus from prison on parole are well underway.

The Pretoria High Court has ruled that Walus, who was serving life sentence for the 1993 assassination, be released on parole within two weeks.

The ruling has been widely condemned by politicians.

The South African Communist Party is furious by the ruling, accusing the judge of being bias.

The party has started legal consultations in a bid to have the decision reversed.

Spokesperson Alex Mashilo says their lawyers have already met with legal representatives of Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha.
