The
High Court in Pretoria has dismissed the state's bid for leave to appeal Janusz
Walus' parole.
Justice Minister Masutha had approached the
court arguing that it erred in its judgment when it ruled that South African
Communist Party leader Chris Hani's killer should be granted parole.
Earlier this year, Masutha set aside the
medical parole board's decision to grant Walus parole and called for further
dialogue with the SACP and Hani's family.
Hani's
wife Limpho previously objected to Walus being freed on parole saying he should
tell the truth.
Hani was gunned down at his Boksburg home in
April 1993.
The
Polish immigrant has served 23 years of a life imprisonment for killing of the
SACP leader in 1993.
