A petition calling on advertisers to boycott the SABC has started circulating online.

The petition, which has been liked more than 1000 times on Facebook, makes an appeal to Clientele Life, Black Label, FNB, Vodacom, and Chicken Licken to stop advertising with the SABC.

It was posted on community advocacy organization Amandla.mobi's website. It was not clear who drew the petition up.
According to the website, about 772 emails had been sent in support of the petition. Icasa on Monday ordered the SABC to withdraw its decision not to air footage of the destruction of property during protests.

The broadcasting regulator held a public hearing on June 24 following complaints about censorship at the SABC.
On Monday, SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng and his board vowed that they would challenge Icasa’s decision.
