The African National Congress says its leadership will analyse the election results before deciding on how to map its way forward in the Western Cape.
The Democratic Alliance swept to victory across most of the province, with the ANC again having to lick its wounds.
The ANC has congratulated the DA on retaining the province in the municipal elections.
The DA managed to get the majority vote in previously held ANC municipalities, such as Beaufort West and Berg River.
The ANC's Cape Town mayoral candidate, Xolani Sotashe, says the DA pulled out all the stops in its elections campaign.
Western Cape ANC’s Provincial Spokesperson Jabu Mfuleni says “First and foremost as we have said that we thank our people for going out in their numbers to cast their votes because it is an important thing to do.
He says “We have actually trusted the leadership of the IEC in the manner in which they have ran the elections”.
“We are saying that there is a lot of improvements that we actually need to do, to deal with long queues especially in our areas in Khayelitsha”.
Overall we are satisfied.
