The State is looking into a case of fraud against a police officer in connection with the death of an 18-year-old in a Beaufort West holding cell.

Two police officers have been discharged from the police force after appearing before a disciplinary hearing.

This comes after an investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate into the role of the officers who were on duty on the night of Gerdo Karelse's murder.

Karelse was mutilated and murdered, allegedly by his cell mate. Ipid found the officer on duty that night had lied in his initial statement.
