SARS Commissioner to face questions in Parliament

Next month, SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane will face questions over the investigation into suspended top tax official Jonas Makwakwa in Parliament.

Last week Makwakwa was put on suspension by Moyane, awaiting an investigation into alleged suspicious payments into his personal bank account.

Kelly-Ann Elskie, SARS employee and alleged to be Makwakwa’s significant other, is also assumed to have received payments.

The payments reportedly amount to more than R1 million and took place over the past six years.

A meeting was set down for October 12 Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance wants to hear from Moyane as well as Treasury and the Financial Intelligence Centre about the progress of the inquiry in a meeting set down
