Western Cape Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo has warned that if attacks on paramedics continue, they will not be sent out to “danger zones” any more.

The minister spoke at the Philippi Stadium last Wednesday during a protest attended by more than a thousand emergency services workers who fear for their safety while on duty.

Paramedics marched through the streets of Browns Farm, known as one of the hot spots for attacks on emergency workers calling for duty.

42 incidents have been recorded since the beginning of the year, which include assault, robbery, theft, vandalism and hijacking.

The Minister has also called on the community to help alleviate this problem
