hijacked truck with R1m cargo confiscated in Phillipi

Five suspects were arrested for hijacking a truck and its cargo with an estimated value of one million rand on Tuesday.

Western Cape Flying Squad received a tip-off about a truck that is being off loaded on a small holding in Schaapkraal, Philippi.

The police’s Wesley Twigg said that upon further search the officers recovered a signal jammer and a SAPS blue light that were used by the robbers.

The suspects between the ages of 23 and 46 will appear before court soon

In an unrelated matter, Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit were busy with high density patrols on Tuesday evening due to ongoing gang violence in the Manenberg area when they spotted a male who tried to get away from them.

‘’The members apprehended the suspect and found a .38 special revolver with ammunition in his possession. Once charged the suspects will appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court to face the charges against them,’’ added Twigg.
