World Teachers Day 2021

Tuesday is World Teacher’s Day. The day commemorates the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.

This year the focus will be on the support teachers need to fully contribute to the recovery process under the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.

The Western Cape’s Education MEC, Debbie Schafer says the teaching profession needs to be acknowledged for the important role it plays in the development and growth of any society.

‘’The teaching profession needs to be acknowledged for the important role it plays in the development and growth of any society. Teachers truly are the backbone of society and should continuously be acknowledged for their contribution towards all the professions and occupations they have in society today.’’

Throughout the month of October, the Western Cape’s Education Department (WCED) will be acknowledging all educators for making an ever-lasting impact on the lives of learners, both past and present.

The WCED has launched a campaign with the hashtag #ThankATeacher, to encourage the public to thank a specific teacher that had an impact on their lives
