Cape lawyer arrested for bringing drugs to court

Wynberg police arrested a 48-year-old lawyer for dealing in drugs at Wynberg Court on Friday.

The police’s Wesley Twigg said that officers received a tip-off that a lawyer will bring drugs to the court house and a description was given.

‘’The members followed up on the information and a lawyer fitting the description was apprehended. He was searched and found in possession of eighty packets of crystal meth (tik).’’

The suspect was arrested and detained, and he is due to make a court appearance in Wynberg on Monday.

In September 2021, a Cape Town lawyer was caught red-handed with R9 600 worth of drugs that was reportedly for a client he was representing. The 39-year-old Khayelitsha resident was arrested at the Bellville Regional Court by a vigilant court orderly. The orderly apparently became suspicious after he noticed the lawyer with a green plastic bag – something which drew his attention. The lawyer drew further attention to himself after he was excused from court proceedings by the presiding magistrate for suspected intoxication.
