A child was found dead with body parts dismembered after he was killed for picking mangoes in Klawer on Friday.

Jerobejin van Wyk, 13, went to pick fruit on Wednesday in the market and was reported missing by his mother after he did not return.

Police have arrested a 56-year-old man since van Wyk's body was found. The suspect said the boy was stealing from his property.

Further investigations of the crime scene found the boy's body dismembered in a drain.

The boy was allegedly chased by the suspect, ran over with a bakkie and driven away.

"I hope I get answers," Van Wyk's mother said. "All I want to know from this man is why. Because of mangoes? Did you kill my son because he wanted to enjoy eating something?"

Klawer resident said the suspect was frequently mysterious and some claimed he was previously a Satanist.

A DNA test will be done on Tuesday to determine if the discovered remains belong to van Wyk.

The suspect's lawyer confirmed to eNCA on Sunday that the child found at the suspect's property was van Wyk.

The suspect is expected to appear in court Monday for murder charges.

Klawer residents said they are outraged at the lack of police action on this case. They are expected to stage a protest outside the court proceedings at Klawer Periodical Court.

The residents are asking the suspect not be released on bail.
