Blown Metrorail tower causes delays on certain lines

A Metrorail tower which was blown off by the wind last Friday, is causing delays or suspension of certain train lines in the metro.

Metrorail acting spokesperson, Zino Mihi, says these telecommunications, are used by both Transnet and PRASA, and occurred since Monday, affecting the Salt River and Wynberg areas.

‘’The telecommunications teams are currently on site to repair the tower. The regional train service has been affected to a point where the Central and Northern Lines are operating a limited train service. However, the South and Cape Flats Lines remain suspended until the telecommunication challenges are resolved. The Southern Line runs from Cape Town to Simonstown. On the other hand, the Cape Flats Line runs from Cape Town to Retreat. Communication through our Social Media platforms (twitter and Facebook) are regularly updated to share information on service disruptions.’’

‘’The damaged tower impacts the communication flow between the Train Traffic Control centre to the train crew. As a safety control measure, the region is necessitated to suspend the service in the affected areas,’’ she added.
