Two teenagers went missing at sea in Strand Beach, one found dead

The National Sea Rescue Institute reported that 17 year old boy went missing at sea while another teenage boy died, after getting into difficulty in the surf line at Strand Beach on Saturday.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the Gordons Bay crew was activated at around 7 pm, once on arrival they were told of two teen who had gone missing in the water.

“The CoCT Water Rescue Network was activated to the drowning in progress, and the NSRI Gordon’s Bay crew responded to our NSRI rescue station at Gordons Bay Harbour and launched the sea rescue craft Rescue 9 Bravo”, said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon

However the body of the sixteen year old boy was found by residents in shallow surf.

“NSRI rescue swimmers and GB Med Sec paramedics assisted in the recovery of the teenager on to the beach where CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) efforts commenced, but sadly despite CPR efforts the 16-year-old boy from Delft was declared deceased,” Lambinon said.
