BRICS 2023 to be held in South Africa

The ANC should encourage the expansion of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) by adding new members based on formally agreed criteria, principles, and values. This is according to ANC’s commission on international relations. The second BRICS Research Conference 2023 will take place from 13 -15 February.

Expanding BRICS means the third of the world’s gross domestic product, fits in with the ANC’s new agenda to strengthen alliances to counter the global dominance of industrialized nation economies such as the US. The proposal was included in a draft of as yet-to-be-adopted policies and discussed at an ANC conference on Thursday.

The ANC has stated that South Africa should use its chairmanship of the BRICS group of nations advocate for the admission of new members to the political and economic grouping of major emerging markets.
