Provincial Board comments on the planned shut-down and ongoing public sector strike.

The Western Cape Provincial CPF Board have noted the ongoing NEHAWU strike and planned shutdown on 20 March 2023.

The board has noted that the Police Unions namely POPCRU and SAPO have joined the strike action.

In a statement, Apostle Mark N Lintnaar, stated that “Only the SAPS members employed under the public administration act are allowed to strike.

Whilst the Board acknowledges and respects the constitutional right by workers to strike and the right to peaceful protest which must be within the ambit of the law, we remain concerned about the safety of communities and the impact the strike will have on service delivery to our communities.”

“We understand that under the current economic climate all are experiencing financial hardship and we take note of the need for better economic advancement.”

They requested that structures such as CPF's, Sub Forums, NHW's, street and block committees not to be part any illegal activity and to continuously work with all law enforcement agencies to uphold the law at all times.
