The Western Cape’s Education Department (WCED) said, as of 5pm on Wednesday, the provincial department received applications for 121 490 learners for the 2024 school year.

Education MEC, David Maynier said with parents applying for more than one school for their children, the total number of individual applications to schools received thus far is 400 790.

‘’We need the data from our admissions system to determine where there is additional demand, so that we can provide the necessary resources and infrastructure in time for the start of the 2024 school year.’’

‘’This includes valuable data on the number of learners that require placement in specific areas, their grades, and their language preferences. The earlier we have this information, the better, which is why we appeal especially to parents of Grade 1 and 8 learners to apply before the 14 April 2023 deadline,’’ he added.

Maynier urged parents/guardians to log a query using the “contact us” option at the top of the admissions website page, should they experience any difficulties applying for their child/ren.

‘’Parents who experience technical problems are able to log a query using the “contact us” option at the top of the admissions page, and we will assist parents with technical issues to resolve each and every problem as soon as possible. Our technical team has worked long hours throughout weekends and holidays to follow up on any outstanding queries.’’

The MEC reminded parents that they do not need to take the hard copies of their documents to every school they apply to.

‘’They will only need to take certified hard copies to the final school they confirm a place at for their child after offers are made from 29 May 2023 onwards,’’ said David Maynier, Western Cape’s Education MEC.
