Rocklands gets food truck, as SEFA meeting postponed again

Residents in Rocklands, Mitchell’s Plain are thrilled to do grocery shopping in the area again, following a fire that broke out at the Rocklands Property, in December 2022. The property housed Shoprite and several other businesses.

Food retailer, Shoprite, has returned to the area but in the form of a food truck. The mobile food truck stocks myriads of products, selling for R10 or less, for residents to purchase essential goods. Shoprite also placed their soup truck at the site to serve residents a warm meal. The mobile shop will operate weekdays from 08:00 to 17:00 and will trade differently over weekends.

Meanwhile, a meeting between the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) and various stakeholders has been hit with yet another delay. The agency was meant to hold a meeting on 11 May, to discuss plans on the future of the Rocklands Property.

‘’The owners of the Shoprite building, SEFA, will provide us with a meeting date in the foreseeable future. The meeting was previously set for 11 May 2023, but due to logistical issues, they have requested more time for a report back meeting,’’ said Daniel Christians, Ward 79 councillor.
