Driver involved in M/Plain crash intends to apply for bail

The driver who was arrested after five school children died whilst transporting them to various schools in Mitchell's Plain, on Tuesday, says he intends to apply for bail.

56-year-old Mninikhaya Mvuli appeared at the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on Thursday and is charged with five counts of culpable homicide and one count of reckless driving.

Two other learners are in a serious condition in hospital.

‘’Mvuli told the court that he intends to apply for bail, and his case has been postponed until next Monday, 5 June 2023, for a bail application date. The state will oppose his bail application,’’ said Eric Ntabazalila, Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson.
