SANTACO declines local/provincial government invite; Stay away continues for at least 48hrs.

Santaco has declined an invitation to resume talks with the City of Cape Town on Thursday.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said on Thursday morning that Santaco had been invited to resume talks at midday, with the City and Western Cape Government.

‘’Following 48 hrs without incident in Cape Town, and a peaceful morning traffic peak today, Premier Winde and I have invited Santaco for a discussion at 12pm. We hope they will engage constructively to end the strike. We also continue to protect busses and now also food trucks,’’ said Hill-Lewis in a tweet.

The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) is expected to launch a court application to return its impounded taxis on Thursday.

Santaco has indicated it will continue with its stayaway until "a moratorium has been instituted by the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government".

Writing in a letter, SANTACO says the decision was taken as there was no resolution to the impasse.
