Two off-duty officers wounded in Gugulethu; Western Cape MEC condemns incident

Western Cape’s Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Reagen Allen, has condemned the shooting on law enforcement officers, which includes SAPS members.

This after two off-duty constables were shot in Gugulethu in Cape Town on Tuesday afternoon. According to police, the officers, who are stationed at the Elsies River and Sea Point police stations, were driving when they came under attack. Police are probing two cases of attempted murder.

Allen described the incident as ‘’highly disturbing and unacceptable".

‘’This latest incident shows the little regard criminals have for life. I regard an attack on any law enforcement officer as an attack on the state. Officers are representatives of the state, whether on or off duty, because they protect, enforce and uphold the laws of the country.’’

‘’I am pleased the officers did not lose their lives and wish them a speedy recovery,’’ added Reagen Allen, Western Cape’s Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC.
