Suspect arrested in Mfuleni for murder of policewoman

Western Cape police arrested a 30-year-old suspect on for his alleged involvement in the murder of a police official in Mfuleni on Sunday.

The police’s Novela Potelwa said the 29 year old police woman, was attached to Samora Machel SAPS and had allegedly been out with a friend visiting acquaintances in the area when the incident occurred.

She was off duty at the time of the incident.

‘’Mfuleni police were alerted to an unknown body that was discovered in Malgas camp, Extension 4, Mfuleni in the early hours of Sunday morning. Upon arrival they initiated an investigation. It was in that process that it was ascertained the deceased person was an SAPS member,’’ said Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

Potelwa added that further investigations about the circumstances that led to her death including the possibility that she was raped

The Hawks has since taken over the investigation.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile has expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased police constable. He assured that with the investigation currently underway, the law will take its course.
