Gugulethu's deputy CPF chairperson shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday

Western Cape police are investigating a case of murder after the deputy chairperson of Gugulethu’s Community Police Forum (CPF), Lulama (Goofie) Dinginto, was shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday.

‘’Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on 2023-12-10 at about 02:45 at a premises in NY110-15, Gugulethu, where an adult woman was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation. Gugulethu SAPS are investigating a murder case,’’ said captain F.C van Wyk.

Police said the motive behind the attack is unknown, adding that no arrests has been made as yet.

The Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board said it is saddened by the loss.

‘’Her dedication to community policing, unwavering commitment to combating violence and drugs, and her outspoken advocacy for a safer community made her a beacon of inspiration for us all,’’ said Fransina Lucas, Chairperson of the Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board.

‘’The news of her brutal and untimely death in her own home is devastating, and words seem insufficient to express the anger and sorrow we feel. In this difficult time, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones. May they find strength and solace in the memories of her impactful life. As a community, we mourn the loss of a dedicated community servant and leader who gave so much of herself to make our world a better place,’’ she added.

The Western Cape’s Police Oversight & Community Safety MEC, Reagen Allen, said he is appalled by the incident.

‘’I urged anyone with information to immediately make it available to all law enforcement agencies, including SAPS, so the perpetrators can be apprehended and convicted. SAPS should leave no stone unturned in finding her killers.’’
