The Mini-Bus Taxi Task Team (MBTTT), which consists of City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government, and South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the Western Cape, says it has amended and extended the interim agreement until the end of February 2024 at the request of SANTACO-WC. In a joint statement, the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town says they have agreed to SANTACO-WC's request for the extension.

A minibus-taxi task team workshop was conducted in Cape Town in August 2023. The purpose of the three-day workshop was to resolve the challenges in the industry in the Western Cape. These include the violence related to the taxi industry and conflicts with law enforcement and the police. It follows a violent strike by the taxi industry that led to the death of five people and the destruction of property.

‘’All MBTTT members are committed to working through the process in a meaningful way. The ongoing priority for all parties is to ensure stability and safety for commuters, especially as we move into the festive season with increased travel needs, and where all efforts are focused on road safety,’’ read the statement.
