Mobility MEC concerned about the number of traffic fatalities on Western Cape roads

The Western Cape’s Mobility MEC, Ricardo Mackenzie, says he is concerned about the number of traffic fatalities the province has seen, since the start of the festive season.

Over the past two weeks, fifty-five people has lost their lives on Western Cape roads, and of these, thirty were pedestrians.

Meanwhile, four people were killed when a truck transporting livestock collided with a passenger vehicle outside Heidelberg, on Wednesday afternoon. A day prior, three farmworkers were killed when the truck they were traveling in overturned in Philadelphia, in the Western Cape.

Mackenzie has called on road users to take the necessary safety precautions while traveling this festive season.

‘’We need all road users to take the necessary safety precautions while traveling this festive season to prevent more senseless deaths during a holiday period that should be focused on enjoying precious time off with family and friends.’’

‘’We are doing our part. We are calling on all road users to join us and do their part. The required precautions are not complicated, but they do require discipline. We must support and challenge each other to make the effort that can make a difference between life and death,’’ added Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape’s Mobility MEC.
