Drug dealers gets 'crafty' in hiding their stash

The City of Cape Town says drug dealers has become somewhat creative in hiding their stash.

In the past week, Metro police officers arrested five suspects in various areas for being in possession of drugs, after officers found contraband in some very ‘unique circumstances.’

Last Wednesday, a 49-year-old suspect was arrested in Parklands after officers found a parcel behind a toilet bowl at a house in the area, containing 68 mandrax tablets, three bags of tik and two small bags of cocaine.

A day prior, at approximately 22:30, officers on patrol in Steenberg recovered nine mandrax tablets from a hole in the wall at a tuckshop in Steenberg, and arrested a suspect.

On Monday, 8 January 2024, three women, aged between 19 and 39, were arrested after officers acted on a tip off about drugs at a premises in Elsies River. They found 219 tik sachets and R5 000 in cash inside a vacuum cleaner.

MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says their enforcement services deal with a lot on a daily basis.

‘’Drug dealers too are becoming increasingly crafty at hiding their stashes, from toilet bowls to ceilings, inside stoves and now even vacuum cleaners. However, our staff are up to the task, as the confiscations in the last week have shown, and we commend them for it.’’
