Case postponed against men who allegedly murdered CPUT student

Two men, aged 28 and 37, believed to be behind the murder of Asiphe Cetywayo, a 22-year-old final student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology from Mbekweni, Paarl, appeared in the local magistrates court on Monday.

Cetywayo mutilated body was found by herdsman at the Vlakkeland dumping site on Monday, March 4. She was raped and murdered the previous day and her body was severely burnt with acid.

A 28-year-old suspect first appeared in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on 7 March 2024, on a charge of murder. He foregoed his bail application when he again appeared in court on 14 March. The second suspect, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Langa on 7 March, and appeared in court on 11 March, on charges of murder and escape from lawful custody.

The case has been postponed on Monday to 5 April 2024 for bail application.
