Two accused in murder of Loyiso Nkohla intends to apply for bail

Two of the accused in the murder of former Ses'khona People’s Movement leader, Loyiso Nkohla, intend to apply for bail, on Monday.

Mzubanzi Chulayo and Mziyanda Mdlungu,will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court. They last appeared in court on 15 February 2024. Chulayo was arrested in the Eastern Cape, in November 2023. Mdlungu was arrested in Pretoria.

Mabandla was killed in a hail of bullets at Philippi railway station in April this year. It is believed that Mabandla was targeted for his role in talks to clear Metrorail's Central Line, where families had built their homes.

Meanwhile, accused one, Zukisa Tshabile, is expected to appear in court again on 28 March 2024, as he chose to abandon his bail application.

The arrest of Thobani Maxengana, who was alleged to be the mastermind behind Nkohla's murder,and arrested in Peddie, Eastern Cape, was found dead in the holding cells, in November 2023. He reportedly died from a heart attack.
