The City of Cape Town provided an update on Thursday. In Langa, affected residents have started rebuilding their structures after the City’s Solid Waste Department cleared the fire debris.

‘’There was some damage to electricity infrastructure – work to repair the damage is ongoing, but will likely take some time to complete,’’ said Charlotte Powell, City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management spokesperson.

In Doornbach and Mfuleni, where more structures were destroyed, work continues to assist the respective communities. The community hall in Mfuleni has been vacated, as persons have either rebuilt their structures, or are staying with family.

‘’Numerous organisations continue to be involved with the provision of meals, including SASSA  and Gift of the Givers, in collaboration with Shoprite – as conveyed by the local Councillor. The City has also received donations and offers of assistance from Pick n Pay, the Angels Network, The Warehouse and the Strategic Fuel Fund,’’ said Powell.

‘’DRMC is currently coordinating the donations, for distribution to the persons affected by the fires,’’ she added.
