Nine police officers injured when their Nyala vehicle overturned on N1 near Okavango bridge

Nine policemen attached to the public-order policing unit in Faure were injured, two of them seriously, on Monday morning when the police vehicle, at Nyala they were travelling in, overturned on the N1 near the Okavango bridge in the direction of Paarl.

The accident occurred during peak-hour traffic.

According to Colonel Andrè Traut, the accident was caused by the Nyala suddenly braking, the reason unknown at this stage.

The injured were treated on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital. Those seriously injured were airlifted. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Kraaifontein Police Station for investigation.
