National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) revealed that one man was found deceased and another, along with three dogs, remain missing after they set out on a fishing trip off the coast of Bloubergstrand on Tuesday. The missing person in question is Pierre Lotter, 23, from Kathu. Lotter was wearing a cream-colored shirt and was last seen at Kids Rock, a popular fishing spot near the Blue Peter Hotel.
The NSRI Table Bay received a call on Tuesday evening, alerting them of the missing individuals and Dachshund dogs. Upon arrival, responders found the body of a 47-year-old man on the shoreline near the hotel, presumed to be Lotter's companion. Despite CPR efforts, the man was later declared deceased.
The circumstances leading to the incident suggest that the group may have attempted to swim across the channel as the tide rose, potentially leading to their disappearance. The lack of clues or sightings adds to the challenge of locating them.
A large-scale search and rescue operation followed, involving multiple agencies and resources. Despite extensive efforts, including air and sea searches, no sign of Lotter or the dogs has been found.
Authorities continue to appeal for information that could help in locating Lotter and the missing dogs. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Tableview Police or emergency services at 0215213338 OR 10111.
