Police instructor who allegedly raped female police trainee released on a warning

A police captain arrested last week for an alleged rape of a female police trainee was released on a warning. The 50-year-old appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court, on Thursday.

The police officer was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for the alleged rape of a 30-year-old female trainee.

‘’The incident allegedly happened on 31 March 2024, when the instructor called the trainee into his office at the Phillipi Police Training Academy and allegedly raped her,’’ said Phaladi Shuping, IPID spokesperson.

The case was postponed to 26 June 2024 for further investigation.
