The case against the suspects were struck off the court roll by the Western Cape High Court, in October 2023, but the Hawks says warrants of arrests has since been obtained and they were circulated as wanted.

Warrant Officer Siyakubonga Mphakathi, attached to the SAPS Rapid Rail Unit, was driving towards the Phillipi railway station in his private vehicle in June 2022, when he was shot and killed through the window by three unknown suspects.

‘’The Hawks' National Priority Violent Crime(NPVC) team based in Bellville have on 8 May 2024 arrested Xolisa Lufutha on allegations of killing a police official,’’ said Siyabulele Vukubi, Hawks Western Cape spokesperson.

The 43-year-old is expected to appear in the Athlone magistrates Court on Thursday.
