Trio arrested near Bonteheuwel for suspected stolen goods

Three suspects were arrested on Thursday, near Bonteheuwel, all thanks to an alert bus commuter.

Mayco Member for Safety & Security, JP Smith, says the City received a call after a passenger called through a tip, informing them that there are suspicious passengers on the bus

Smith added that officers recovered a range of suspected stolen goods, including cellphones, tablets and other electronic goods.

‘’Information received flagged three suspicious individuals on a bus travelling along Jakes Gerwel Drive – one of them wearing gloves and a face mask. Three people were detained at Elsies River SAPS for further investigation.’’

‘’I want to commend the individual who had the presence of mind to raise the alarm – their actions likely saved the day, and for that we applaud them. We speak often about how fighting crime is a shared responsibility, and this is a stellar example of what can be achieved through good collaboration,’’ added JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety & Security.
