Fire crews received a call about a building alight on the corner of Tallent and Voortrekker Road, shortly before 17:00 on Monday.
Six pumps and four water tankers were deployed to the scene and the blaze was extinguished about two hours later.
“Firefighters discovered the body of a minor about 10 minutes later, at this stage, it appears that several flats have been affected, and numerous persons displaced". Said the city's Fire and Rescue Service's Jermaine Carelse.
The scene has been handed over to police for further investigation.
