An anti-GBV organisation wants the teenage suspect accused of murdering Caledon pupil, Deveney Nel, to be tried as an adult due to the intensity of the crime he allegedly committed.
The 17-year-old boy
appeared briefly in the Caledon Magistrates Court Monday and the case was
postponed to next month for further investigation.
Shortly after
16-year-old Deveney was reported missing two weeks ago, her body was found
stabbed in a storeroom on the premises of Overberg High School.
"He masterminded
not to be caught for over two weeks and allegedly was part of the search as
well, so that’s not a mind of child, that’s a mind of an adult and also his 17-years-old,
he should be in a Juvenile detention facility until he turns 18 and should be
tried as adult,’’ said Lucinda Evans, Chairperson of One Billion Rising SA
“We believe that his in
a place of safety, why does he need to be in a place of safety, when he
mercilessly killed Deveney,” added Evans
