A minor was killed in a fire that broke out in a residential
building on Voortrekker Road in Parow, on Monday night.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson,
Jermaine Carelse, said emergency services were called to the scene where they
discovered the child’s body 10 minutes after arrival.
‘’The City's Fire & Rescue Service receved a call at
approximately 16:50 of a building alight at the corner of Tallent and
Voortrekker Road in Parow. The first arriving officer called for additional
resources.
‘’There are six pumps and four water tankers on scene from various fire stations. The fire was contained at 17:50. Firefighters discovered the body of a minor about 10 minutes later. At this stage, it appears that several flats have been affected, and numerous persons displaced. One person remains unaccounted for,'' added Carelse
The fire was extinguished at 19:00. Building inspector
requested to site as building on Monday evening was deemed unsafe.
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service for investigation.
