Elderly man killed allegedly by SAPS officials in Mpumalanga

The acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (DR) Zeph Mchwanazi, has ordered an investigation after a 60 year old man died in hospital on Monday after he was allegedly assaulted by two police members in Piet Retief.

Mchwanazi has condemned this incident as well as the allegations against the two police officers. In light of the allegations, an internal investigation has been initiated for thorough examination.

“There is nothing that is going to be swept under the table and we can never allow any manner of misconduct by members of the service. The incident is regrettable and if these are found to have taken the law into their own hands, then unfortunately they will have to be charged accordingly and face the full might of the law,” said Mchwanazi.

The Independent Police Investigative Directive (IPID) currently is investigating the murder case. Police urged the community to remain patient as the investigation unfolds and justice awaits.
