Man shot and killed in Bonteheuwel

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed in Bonteheuwel on Saturday morning. Western Cape confirmed that the incident occurred in Redberry Close, and that a murder case is being probed.

‘’The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Saturday morning, 28 September 2024 at about 09h15 in Redberry Close, Bonteheuwel, where a 24 year old man was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation.  Bishop Lavis police responded to a complaint of a shooting, and upon arrival on the scene, they found the victim inside his vehicle with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect/s are yet to be arrested,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Media Liaison Officer at Western Cape SAPS.

Ward councillor, Angus McKenzie said two suspects were arrested in relation to the incident. He applauded residents for reporting the crime.

‘’ At just after 8a.m this morning (Saturday), 2 known gangsters in the R Block of Bonteheuwel were alleged to have murdered a driver of a silver polo. I was immediately provided with the description and location of the two individuals and was able to immediately relay this information to our tip-off service. Within hours of receiving the information at exactly 12:30pm, the two suspects were arrested and taken to Bishop Lavis police station in connection with the shooting. The details surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.’’

‘’However, I want to applaud the resident for speaking up and providing extremely credible information, which allowed our hard-working SAPS Bishop Lavis officers to place these individuals behind bars. This, indeed, is a testament to a collective and holistic turnaround in attitude of the people of Bonteheuwel. They demand peace at all costs, even if it means speaking up. Silence will no longer be tolerated,’’ added McKenzie.
