New Woodlands fire claims two lives; leaves 9 displaced

A fire that broke out at a residence in New Woodlands, Mitchell’s Plain has claimed two lives.

The City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services spokesperson, Edward Bosch says when firefighters arrived at Hans Aschenborn Road, they found two formal dwellings alight.

‘’The City’s Fire Service received the call  just after 05:00 of a house alight in New Woodlands, Mitchells Plain. Upon arrival officers found two formal dwellings alight,’’ said Edward Bosch, spokesperson for City of Cape town Fire & Rescue Service.

‘’One formal dwelling and one wendy house were completely destroyed, while a second formal dwelling was partially damaged. Two adults sustained fatal burn wounds as a result of the fire. A total of nine persons were displaced,’’ he added.

Bosch says the cause of the fire is unknown and the scene was handed over to the South African Police Service.
