Thabo Bester, a convicted murderer and rapist, is requesting permission from the Pretoria High Court to access a laptop and modem, claiming he needs these tools to prepare for his upcoming case in the Bloemfontein High Court.
Bester, along with doctor Nandipha
Magudumana, is accused of staging an escape from the Mangaung Correctional
Facility in 2020, where he was serving a life sentence.
He has stated that his confinement in the maximum-security section of Kgosi Mampuru prison has hindered his ability to prepare his defense effectively.
This morning, he argued that he should have
access to a laptop like other inmates who are studying.
Bester expressed that he faces disadvantages
with only two visits per month, each limited to 30 minutes, and limited legal
resources since lawyers must book appointments based on availability,
restricting his access to necessary information.
