Two lifeless bodies found in Gugulethu and Manenberg on same day

The community of Gugulethu has been left reeling following the grim discovery of a newborn's lifeless body in a plastic bag on Friday.

The police’s FC van Wyk said a local resident stumbled upon the gruesome scene at Khikhi Hostel's well-known Chisa nyama.

Police have since launched an investigation, pending post-mortem results to determine the exact cause of death.

“Gugulethu officers registered a concealment of birth following the discovery of newborn baby inside a plastic bag found in a dust bin by a member of the public at about 09:55 at NY 64 Khikhi Hostel,” said Captain F.C van Wyk, Western cape police spokesperson.

Outraged residents are calling for thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator, speculating that the culprit may not be local but chose the busy area for disposal.

Meanwhile, police discovered a fetus, in Manenberg on Friday.

‘’Manenberg police responded to a complaint on Friday 11 October 2024. Upon arrival in Red River Road the community complaint about an object causing a blocked drain. Further inspection indicated that it resembled that of a new born baby. The victim was removed and declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Manenberg police said they are probing an inquest for further investigation.
