Delft teenager stabbed to death

A New Year’s Day tragedy has resulted in the death of a teenager in Delft. Jamie-lee Martins was stabbed to death. The 16-year-old girl was pregnant at the time. Police said the incident was only reported to police on Thursday.



‘’Delft police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a stabbing incident in Letaba Street, Leiden, Delft in which a 16 year old female and her unborn baby were fatally injured. According to reports the victim was stabbed by a man who argued with her and was taken to a medical facility in a private vehicle where she later died. A murder case was registered for investigation,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Twigg confirmed that detectives acted swiftly as they arrested a suspect.

‘’We can confirm that an adult male was arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.’’

It is believed the murder is a result of an accident involving fireworks,. It is understood that the woman allegedly set off crackers, which hit the man in the face, whereby he allegedly shoved her to the ground. She questioned his actions and he retaliated by stabbing her. It is believed the man wanted to flee to the eastern Cape, but police arrested him in hospital
