A fire that originated on the slopes of Newlands a few days ago spread over the mountain saddle towards the Cape Town CBD last night.
City’s
Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson, Edward Bosch, said they currently have
two active divisions where firefighting strategies and resources are focused.
“Two
helicopters have been water-bombing the flanks of Tafelberg Road since first
light, with a third helicopter en-route from Stellenbosch to assist in the CBD.
Five firefighting resources from the City are actively fighting the fire on
Tafelberg Road. The Table Mountain cable car operations have been halted, and
City resources and SanParks staff are monitoring flare-ups in the Deer Park
area.” Bosch.
