Body found in a wheelie bin in Manenberg

On Thursday morning Manenberg residents walking along Duinefontein were shocked when they discovered the legs of a woman inside a wheelie bin as the rubbish was removed.

The bin was dumped in a canal near Duinefontein Road. People became suspicious and looked inside the bin and that is when they made the horrific discovery.

Police were called to the scene and a large crowd gathered as speculated about who it could be. Until today Manenberg police worked hard on the case and identified the woman as a 29 year old from Gugulethu.

Nobody in the Manenberg community could identify her and it was found that she had been dead for hours already. It is suspected that the woman was murdered and dumped in Manenberg.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the discovery. He says "Circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified young female whose body was found in a wheelie-bin dumped in a canal alongside Duinefontein Road, Elsieskraal, Manenberg on Thursday are under investigation.

Four females and seven males were brought in for questioning leading to the positive identification of the suspects directly linked to the murder.

A 57 year old male and two females aged 25 and 26 were arrested for a charge of murder. Investigations continues and the possibility of more arrest cannot be excluded.
