Four gang leaders aged between 25 and 43, who police say are notorious for instilling fear in the lives of residents in Mitchells Plain, were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday.

‘’Armed with intelligence and warrants of arrest, they
departed to different locations within the City of Cape Town District where
they tactically approached the identified premises where the team executed the
search warrants. After entry was denied, the members had to use force to enter
the premises. They ensued with a search, resulting in the confiscation of
mobile devices, laptops, and a substantial amount of cash believed to be the
proceeds of crime,’’ said Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape police spokesperson.
The accused also face charges related to the contravention
of the Proceeds of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
Speaking on Bush Radio on Wednesday evening, Cape
Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says more boots on the ground will be deployed as
part of the municipalities budget.
