A somber mood has settled over
a family in Gugulethu following the brutal murder of 32 year-old Sibongile
Thethiwe.
Thethiwe’s life was tragically
cut short by Andile Soyenge, known as "Blooi" in the community.
According to Malihambe Womens Outreach NPO's Nosipho Daniels, Soyenge had been
exploiting and abusing her.
“He stabbed her multiple
times, and the one deepest wound is on her neck and multiple times on the head.
Not only did he murder her physically, but
several times, he had been raping her in exchange for two hundred and fifty
rand she owed his girlfriend who had ordered him to collect this money on her
behalf from Sibongile. When she couldn't pay he would rape her until the day he
eventually killed her”, said Daniels.
The suspect, now in custody, was
arrested on Friday.
The Malihambe Women Outreach
NPO has pledged support to Sibongile's family, ensuring that justice is served.
Sibongile Thethiwe, leaving
behind one child, will be laid to rest at her home in East London. Her
community remains steadfast in their demand for justice and an end to
gender-based violence.
