The Hawks in the Western Cape made a breakthrough as they arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Constable Ayanda Moyikwa.
In January, Moyikwa, who was stationed at the Airport
Border Police, was on his way to collect a colleague in Mfuleni, as they were
scheduled to report for duty. While driving his private vehicle, he witnessed a
robbery in progress at Gcuwa Street. The suspects approached his vehicle and
shot him once in the head. He was robbed of his cell phone.
‘’During the robbery, a member of the public was assaulted
and robbed of his cell phone and R100 cash.
The suspects were described as two unknown African males. Constable
Moyikwa then reversed his vehicle and parked at 7157 Gcuwa Street, Ext 6. The suspects approached his vehicle and shot
him once in the head. He was robbed of his cell phone,’’ said Warrant Officer
Zinzi Hani, Hawks spokesperson in the Western Cape.
‘’During further investigation, a suspect was identified
and a J50 warrant of arrest was obtained as well as executed. The suspect was
traced to Pollsmoor Prison where he was arrested, [on] 20 March 2025,’’ she
added.
Hani said the accused will make his first court appearance
on Monday on charges of murder and robbery, and he remains in custody on an unrelated
matter.
