The City of Cape Town is
buckling under the weight of unrelenting rainfall today, with severe flooding,
traffic chaos, and even a wall collapse reported across the metro.
With
schools opening for Term 2 today, the roads are expected to be busy. City roads
have been transformed into rivers, while mudslides and blocked lanes are
causing gridlock in several suburbs. The City of Cape Town has advised citizens to be
cautious on the roads especially those transporting children to and from school.
The
South African Weather Services (SAWS) reported a 60% chance of rain in Cape
Town.
Areas
such as Ravensmead, Ocean View, Table View, Simons Town, Prince
George Drive and Fish Hoek are already experiencing flooding due to heavy
rainfall and blocked drains.
Road
users are encouraged to be cautious on the roads and maintain a safe following
distance.
